NOTE: The purple flowered plant, illustrated in the book, is Echium plantagineum, or 'Paterson’s curse', a weed often found in Australian pastures. It is difficult to control and is toxic to cows. Said to be named after the Paterson family of Cumberoona, who planted it in their garden in the 1880s. It can also sometimes be called 'salvation Jane', 'blueweed', 'Lady Campbell weed' or the 'Riverina bluebell'
